Education and Outreach
We develop and deliver educational programs that teach students and communities about the importance of cemetery preservation, history, and sustainable practices. Our workshops, tours, and events highlight the rich cultural heritage of African American cemeteries and the risks threatening their existence.
Educational Workshop and Seminars: Offer workshops and seminars on various topics, such as cemetery preservation, the history of African American burial sites, sustainable cemetery practices, and the cultural significance of cemeteries. These programs can be tailored for schools, community groups, or professional organizations. Volunteer service for small church organizations and grassroots organizations.
Guided Cemetery Tours: Lead guided tours of historic cemeteries, focusing on the stories of those buried there, the architecture and symbolism of gravestones, and the broader historical context of the cemetery. These tours can be designed for general audiences, schools, or specialized groups.
School and Youth Programs: Develop programs specifically for students, from middle school to high school, that incorporate cemetery visits, hands-on activities like grave mapping, and lessons on topics such as history, environmental science, and cultural heritage. These programs can align with curriculum standards and offer experiential learning opportunities.
Virtual Learning and Online Curriculum Development: Develop online courses, webinars, and digital resources that provide education on cemetery preservation, history, and green practices. This can include virtual tours, interactive maps, and downloadable educational materials.
Public Speaking and Advocacy: Offer to speak at community meetings, conferences, and other public forums about the importance of preserving cemeteries, especially those with cultural and historical significance. Use these opportunities to advocate for cemetery preservation and engage the public in these efforts.
